Lots of Sheephead, Sculpin, a few trophy Calico Bass and a 7 Pound Whitefish! Lots of few Yellows as well. Water around the Coronado Islands looks nice, a tad on the cool side, but plenty of fish to keep things interesting.

Ended up claiming 1st and 2nd place in the Charter Boat division, as well as largest Yellowtail of the event at #33.9 Can’t wait to do it again next year!

The water temps near shore have dropped, the water’s dirty and fish are not hungry. The offshore waters are still warm, and there is plenty of clean water out there so are hopefull our fall season isa good one. We have a few offshore trips this week and we will be fishing the Make A Wish Tuna Challenge this weekend. Can’t wait!!

Clean, warm water lines are coast and we have put Halibut, White Seabass and Yellowtail and Mako sharks on the boat in the past few weeks. Mako over #125 and the rest with nothing under #30! Sheephead, Rockfish, Sand and Calico Bass have been fiilling in the gaps as well.

Saturday we put a nice #26 Yellowtail on the deck along with a few Sand and Calico bass. Saturday we had limits of Sandbass and a few Calicos for 4 guys. Great fishing!

Buzz of the big fish brought a crowd of anglers, captains, deckhands, commerical fisherman, and news media of all types down to meet the boat. The crowd went wild when the scale showed a massive 405.2 pounds, the largest Yellowfin Tuna ever caught on rod and reel. Time will tell if the IGFA will certify the fish, as there are quite a few hoops the angler and gear need to jump through to make it a legal by the book catch. The fish was caught on a Penn International 30W reel moddified by Cal Sheets. 100 pound spectra to 100 mono and a 9/0 Owner hook. With all the fancy new gear that’s come out in the past 10 years, it’s cool to see it caught semi-old school tackle.

History was made today, breaking a 75 year old record. Question is, how many more are out there and when will you get yours!!!?? :)
