Had a 5-5 yesterday and took a great group of guys from Las Vegas down to the Cornado Islands. Finally! Nice weather!! Flat calm all day with little wind and no swell. Started off North of the North Island with good fishing on the Rockfish. Spent 2 hours or so there for 9 Reds, 2 Sheephead, (one about 6 pounds) and 30 other Mixed fish. Moved to the Middle Grounds and saw some Yellowtail pop up right off the bat. Tossed some bait, no bites. With the positive signs we fished a few other spots for nothing. Fish were there, just not interested in biting. Headed offshore a bit and found nice birdschools of 4-8 pound Bonito. We had jig strikes and fish on bait for more than an hour. Ended up with 14 in the boat. Seemed to slowdown around 2:30pm, and I wanted to get back into the islands and dump the rest of our bait in hopes of hooking just one Yellow. When we arrived saw fish all around the other 3/4 day boats! Anchored up and spent a good hour trying to trick one, no luck. The fish are there, just not really ready to bite. The San Diego managed to land 6, another boat next o us had none. I reeled a jig through numerous spots of boiling fish for nothing.
Ended up being a really good day on the water. Lots of fillets to take back to Vegas.
Till next time, Capt. Bryan
Go Pens!!!!

After a few failed attempts, headed out Solo today in search of a Thresher Shark. Fished a new area and found this one 45 minutes after I put the lures in the water. 25 minutes later it was in the boat. Fish hit a Pink Bait-O-Matic on 80# line. Back at the dock by 10:15am. What an excellent day! My first Solo thresher!!!! Est. weight, around 100 pounds. Not a huge one, but perfect for one person to handle.
So we were making mackeral for bait yesterday with Sabinkis and some of my buddies found a way to score a pair of legal Sand Bass on the rigs. We let them go as for sportfishing, the rigs themselves are illegal, but fine for making bait, being that in the US, you can sportfish with no more than 2 hooks per rig, but it was a surprise.

A few shots of some of the boys pulling on big sharks. These got away. Only take what you can eat and some of our friends have landed some of these big fish and shared the meat, so loosing them is just fine with us.
