Had an AM 1/2 day charter with a great group from the snowy white north-west. Hooked something freakin huge in the first 15 min or fishing. Battled it for 30 min without gaining much of any line. Huge Seabass? Halibut? Shark? Orca? Line broke in the end. Good signs locally of an early fishing season. Staytuned.

February 16th, 2010Giant Squid are in the town! Come get-um!
February 2nd, 2010Fished last night and had more than we needed in less than an hour. Brought home 15 big squid. Perfect calm conditions for this kind of fishing. Had a few Blue sharks swimming around the boat as well. Contact us for a special rate for these squid trips.

A couple nice Giant Squid.
Winter and Baja
November 11th, 2009Sorry for the lack of posts, our local season has really slowed down. Still some fish around if anyone wants to make a run. I just got back from an 11 day trip fishing the Baja coast. We had great fishing on Yellowfin tuna, Dorado and a few Wahoo. Good weather the boat ran great. Check back for updates on the El Gato, we will be undertaking some projects over the next few weeks and all winter.
Week of September 30th to October 11th. Yellowfin and Yellowtail are the name of the game
October 11th, 2009Not many trips, but the fish are stil there. Wednesday the 7th we completely mangled the Yellowfin tuna. We caught over 50 for 3 guys! Kept a few and released a bunch. On #80, the lift pole, hand-line, 10 pound bass gear, skipjig, heavy jig, we ran out of ways to catch fish. Weather was perfect.
The last 2 days we did 5-5 trips. Lots of Yellowtail and a few tuna. Looks like weather next week might end the season for us. Let’s hope not. Friend us on Facebook, as we have been updating that daily. Thanks for checking in.
New Facebook Page
September 29th, 2009We now have a page on Facebook. Gotta get the word out there! Check us out and become our friends… under the name “El Gato Sportfishing”
September 25th, 2009 Fog, then found’em Yellowfin, Yellowtail and Skipjack
September 27th, 2009Started with a heap of thick fog this morning from the dock to 15 miles out. Richard and his group came aboard with high hopes and the right attitude. It’s always good to have a group that’s there to enjoy themselves and sees catching fish a bonus, no one should ever charter a boat to put meals on the table, they should go for the experience, time away from the hussle of daily life.
And when the group has the right attitude, the crew feels that and orders up some good fishing, and good fishing we had, not good, excellent!!! First thing in the morning we have a kelp for 13 fish! Yellowfin and Yellowtail. Ok, day made, let’s find some more. Jig strikes and bird schools gave us a total of 36 fish for the day. 23 Yellowfin, 8 Yellowtail, 5 Skipjack. It was an epic day to say the least. Congrats to Karen on her first Yellowfin tuna.
Fish are still here guys, let’s go fishing!!!
September 22, 2009 BIG Albacore!!!!
September 23rd, 2009Took Greg and his family out fishing again yesterday. Rough weather all day, some old timers call that sort of weather “Albacore Weather” and now I know what they mean. We had a triple jig strike and 2 baitfish at 11am. All 5 were over 30 pounds. The hand held scale said #35. The El Gato has some built in magic that raises fish like no other boat I have been on. I have read about certain fiberglass boats with diesel engines that have “that” sound, and she has it. We also caught 5 nice Yellowfin tuna and lost a couple more. Now these Albacore could be the sign of a very exciting fall fishing season, or it could just be a random catch. Either way, we gotem, we got 5 and we are freakin stoked!!!!

Local Albacore at its finest
Open dates, come get some!

Went another direction today and bam! Great fishing. Yellowfin, Dorado, Yellowtail and Skipjack. Ended with over 25 fish. Heck of a day!

Nice Dorado caught on the new Qualia Q12 reel
September 18th 2009, It was bound to happen
September 20th, 2009Skunk. Went west, saw a lot of fish, Skipjack, Yellowfin and Marlin, none of which would bite. Crappy feeling, but what can ya do? Talked to other fisherman in that area and they had the same luck, or lack there of.
